FY 2011 Work Plan

HESS Committee Mission

Our vision for Southeast Alaska is to support health, education and social service systems that assure the health and general welfare of our citizens through an effective and efficient system of care. Southeast Alaskans will have local access to an effective state of the art education system that provides learning throughout the lifespan.

Program Goals

  1. Raise awareness of leaders and community members of the economic impact of health care and social services.
  2. Support the continued development of coordinated regional health services.
  3. Encourage early education funding and rural education support.
  4. Promote the funding of suicide prevention and early intervention strategies.
  5. Promote the training of Southeast Alaska residents to work in the fields of health, education and social services.
  6. Encourage strong early childhood education and development supporting parents as first teachers.
  7. Promote healthy communities and work place wellness activities.
  8. Assure that the Southeast Alaska has available a workforce that is highly skilled, educated, healthy, and supported in a way that maximizes every individuals potential to contribute to their community.
  9. Promote the active involvement of communities in supporting initiatives that focus on research-based effective practices in the delivery of health, education and social service programs.
  10. Facilitate collaboration and increased communication among and between service providers and programs.
  11. Assure the continued development of a crisis response and intervention safety net for those in crisis.
  12. Support innovation in the education system. 

FY11 HESS Tasks and Work Plan

  1. Maintain a SEC Health, Education and Social Services Committee with active participants and have regular committee meetings.
  2. Support the development of food systems in SE Alaska
  3. Examine ways to increase, improve and support existing health care infrastructure and programs in Southeast Alaska.
  4. Promote the implementation of suicide prevention initiatives.
  5. Through the Southeast Conference and the Council of Mayors, support the creation of community-wide health initiatives.
  6. Provide public service articles to regional publications.
  7. Support the department of Education goals and objectives.
  8. Link with other SEC committees and initiatives.
