He previously worked in the media industry for nearly 20 years, serving as executive editor of newspapers such as The Juneau Empire and Columbia (MO) Daily Tribune. He also is a proud Army veteran.

Charles studied English at the University of Louisville in his home state of Kentucky before moving to Alaska in 2008. He returned to school to earn an undergraduate degree in business from the University of Alaska Southeast, and then a Master of Science degree in Management and Leadership from Western Governor’s University. He lives in Juneau with his wife, Eldri, and together they have four sons: Jaden, Karsten, Bill and Bruce.
