Jason Custer, VP Regulatory & Government Affairs, Alaska Power & Telephone Company
Jason Custer is Vice President Regulatory and Government Affairs for Alaska Power & Telephone, a utility providing services in 40 locations in rural Alaska, including the communities of Prince of Wales Island, Haines, Skagway, and Gustavus. He has been involved in leading numerous hydropower, transmission, microwave, and fiber optic projects – from finance, to project management, to operations. Custer also serves as Chairman of the Supervisory Committee for Tongass Federal Credit Union, and on the boards of the Alaska Chamber, and the Juneau International Airport. Prior to his work with AP&T, Custer worked as Development Coordinator for the City of Saxman, managing a diverse array of public works, housing, and marine infrastructure projects. He has co-founded numerous organizations including the Ketchikan Marine Industry Council and Haida Energy. Custer’s interest in rural economic development began in the US Peace Corps (Zambia), working with farmers on aquaculture, agroforestry, marketing, and public health initiatives. He later worked managing special projects in a position with the US Office of Surface Mining / TVA in rural southeast Virgina. Custer’s passions include Alaska economics, winter sports, and investment in community banks.
